First introduced in 2015, Express Entry is an electronic application management system. It allows to file and process applications under the following Economic Class immigration programs:

• Federal Skilled Worker Program;
• Federal Skilled Trades Program;
• Canadian Experience Class.

Every candidate whose profile is registered with the Express Entry system is assigned a certain number of points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and becomes a part of the pool of candidates for permanent residence.

Points are assigned for the following factors: age, employment history, education, knowledge of English and French languages, family composition, Canadian work experience, Canadian family, job offer, provincial nomination, skill transferability factors etc.

Every 2-3 weeks an Express Entry draw takes place where the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada) announces the passing score. Candidates who score is same or more than the passing one are invited to submit their applications for permanent residence within 60 days.

Express Entry applications, although designed to be fast and efficient, are still subject to all Canadian immigration laws (IRPA, IRPR, officers' manuals). If you provide incorrect information or forget to provide some information or don't provide information which you think is irrelevant, you might be banned from entering Canada for five years.

Immigration officers scrutinize your applications, going thoroughly through every field. If they turn down your application and don't give you a ban for five years, it still means that you will have to submit an Express Entry profile again. Scores tend to rise over time, and there are good chances you might not score enough to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
