About Home Child Care Provider / Home Support Worker Pilot Program

Under Home Child Care Provider / Home Support Worker Pilot Program, you may become a permanent resident of Canada and, subsequently, a citizen of Canada if you are hired to provide care to a child / children in Canada or to provide personal care to seniors or people with disabilities.

You will receive the status of the permanent resident of Canada after you have worked two years as a home child care provider / home support worker.

Home Child Care Provider Pilot Program:
Occupations and Duties

If you decide to immigrate to Canada through Home Child Care Provider Pilot Program, your NOC (National Occupational Classification) Code is NOC-4411. This Code includes the following occupations:
  • babysitters
  • child-care caregivers
  • child care providers
  • nannies.

You will need to perform some or all of the following duties (as per NOC):
  • Supervise and care for children in employer's or own residence
  • Bathe, dress and feed infants and children
  • Prepare formulas and change diapers for infants
  • Plan, prepare and serve meals for children and may perform other housekeeping duties
  • Oversee children's activities, such as meals and rest periods, as instructed by employer
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home
  • Instruct children in personal hygiene
  • Tend to the emotional well-being of children and support their social development
  • Discipline children according to the methods requested by the parents
  • Provide age-appropriate educational training through organized activities such as games, crafts, reading and outings
  • Take children to and from school and appointments
  • May be required to keep records of daily activities and health information regarding each child.

Home Support Worker Pilot Program: 
Occupation and Duties

If you decide to immigrate to Canada through Home Support Worker Pilot Program, your NOC (National Occupational Classification) Code is NOC-4412. This Code includes the following occupations:

  • Attendant for persons with disabilities - home care
  • Family caregiver
  • Home support worker
  • Housekeeper
  • Live-in caregiver - seniors
  • Personal aide - home support
  • Personal care attendant - home care
  • Respite worker - home support

You will need to perform some or all of the following duties (as per NOC):
  • Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption
  • Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
  • Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
  • May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, assisting in the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of home care agency supervisor or nurse
  • May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds

Home Child Care Provider / Home Support Worker Pilot Program: Eligibility

  1. IELTS General test: you need to score at least "5" in Writing, Listening and Speaking, and "4" in Reading.
  2. You need to have an educational credential assessment done for you if you have a foreign education. Alternatively, 1-year post-graduate program in Canada is also acceptable.
  3. Ideally, your education and / or work experience must attest to your professional abilities as home child care provider / home support worker. We will have to be able to provide proof of that.
